Jestina V. Jones Memorial Fund Donates to Well Woman Clinic

Jestina V. Jones Memorial Fund has on Friday 18th March, 2016 donated Le 900,000 to the Well Woman Clinic at Murray Town in Freetown. The Jestina Jones Memorial Fund was established after the death of Mrs. Jestina Jones from breast cancer. After her death, her children decided to establish the fund to help other women that are suffering from the same disease in the country. In giving the background and purpose of forming the Jestina V. Jones Memorial Fund, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Dr. Teddy A.O.C. Jones said Mrs. Jestina V. Jones Fund provides athletics scholarship for students of the Annie Walsh Memorial School (AWMS), her Alma–mater and also provides free breast cancer screening for women in Sierra Leone. He added that the Jestina Jones Free Mammogram will provide free breast screening and counseling to women in Sierra Leone. The goal of this program is to sponsor up to seventy-one (71) women or more each year with a grant that will cover all fees that come with the first mammogram visit including mandatory counseling at the Well Woman Clinic. He informed that this year, the endowment will be sponsoring 15 women (three of whom will be secondary school girls from three different schools) with an initial donation of Le 900,000.00 to the Melvina Edna Patricia Stuart Trust (MEPS TRUST), Well Woman Clinic. He said this donation will be done under the leadership of Jennifer Renner-Thomas which offers not only breast cancer screening but other services such as checking for diabetes and obesity. The Director of the Well Woman Clinic, Mrs. Jennifer Renner- Thomas thanked the Jestina V. Jones family for thinking about the clinic as they are perfectly dealing with women health in the country. She said the full treatment for breast cancer is not yet in the country and that is why they always encourage women to prevent the disease as its treatment is very expensive in overseas also. She encouraged more partners to focus on the clinic so their goals could be achieved.

Mrs. Renner- Thomas promised that the clinic will utilize the donation for its purpose. She added that it was a memorable day for the Jones family as the late (Mrs. Jones) was a very hard working and intelligent woman in the society.
